I saw a fantastic idea, to blog whilst being a science student to keep a record of everything I have learned and hopefully help towards employment come the end of my degree.  I guess I will start with everything I have done so far (from my poor memory);
Techniques learned:
  • Cell counts
  • Cell Culture
  • Dilutions
  • Serial Dilutions
  • Spectrophotometry
  • Streaking bacteria plates
  • Staining
  • PCR
  • Toxicity assays
  •  Statistics.
Skills learned:
  • Keeping a lab book
  • Use of hemacytometers
  • Use of spectrometers
  • Use of PCR heat cycler
  • Use of fumigation hoods
  • Use of/calibration of Pipettes
  • Microscopy
  • Aseptic technique
  • Detailed observation.,
  • Equations
  • Researching cell lines
  • Writing a protocol
  • Problem solving
  • Observing/ identifying cell morphology
Currently in third year of university for Biomedical Science so there is still more to be done and plenty to learn, but so looking forward to working in a lab!.  I am so surprised when I think how much I have learned and how good my class scores have been so far, never would have believed this was something I would be capable of but I am glad to prove myself wrong!
